Smartwell Announces Board of Directors Changes
September 17, 2026 — Leads & Copy — Smartwell, also known as the Company, announced significant changes to its Board of Directors, including the resignations of David Toyoda and Ian Mallman. Toyoda's resignation was effective September 14, and Mallman's on September 12. The Company extended its gratitude for their contributions.
Tony Chan, the Company's President, has been appointed to fill the vacancy left by Mr. Toyoda. Chan brings a wealth of experience from his tenure as a principal in both a brokerage firm and a private equity company. He has prior experience serving on the boards of multiple public companies and has chaired another board.
Ge Zijian will succeed Mr. Mallman as an Independent Director. Ge holds a Bachelor of Pharmacy from China Pharmaceutical University and a Master of Laws from Tsinghua University. He is a Chinese Certified Accountant (CPA), a licensed PRC lawyer, and possesses banking practitioner qualifications. Previously, Ge served as the Deputy Director of the Haidian District Investment Promotion Bureau and currently manages the Beijing branch of Hangzhou Bank.
Additionally, He Yang, the Company's Chief Executive Officer, has been appointed as the Chairman of the Board of Directors. The Company's audit committee will now comprise Chris Twell as Chair, Dr. Paul Arnison, and Ge Zijian.
These strategic appointments are intended to bolster the Board of Directors' expertise, elevate corporate governance standards, and provide robust support for the Company's future growth strategies, capital markets goals, and overall strategic initiatives.
