The Educational Partnership Foundation (TEPF) Funds enriching Carseland School with an outdoor classroom to build eco-literacy skills

Carseland, AB / TheNewswire / March 29th, 2017 - Students at Carseland Elementary School have been busy planning an outdoor classroom space which will be adjoined to the school and community garden that was built last spring.  This project based learning initiative encompasses creativity, sustainability and innovation.  Students in grade 5 and 6 have been busy designing and creating plans for what the space is going to looks like as a finished product.  These students have already created a company called the Green Thumbs. The members of this company are going to be instrumental in delivering nature-based educational programs to the rest of the school.  

 

A goal of the activity is for the students to have a deeper understanding of nature and how we are all connected to the planet: eco-literacy.  Many curriculum objectives will be weaved into using this space as a great teacher.  There will be rain gauges, thermometers, weather vanes, pocket microscopes, seating, a pergola and many opportunities for discovery.  “TEPF is very proud to support these innovative students and cannot wait to see the results of their Outdoor Classroom” explains Din Ladak, President and CEO of TEPF.
