Calgary Flames Blitz Calgary Community

Calgary, AB / TheNewswire / The Calgary Flames will be making various community appearances tomorrow afternoon beginning with the launch of their literacy program, Reading…Give It A Shot!

In partnership with the Calgary Educational Partnerships Foundation (CEPF), select Flames players will visit Monsignor J.S. Smith Elementary School with Harvey the Hound and the voice of the Calgary Flames, Beesley.

Reading…Give It A Shot! is a program that encourages students in Kindergarten through Grade 6 to develop a love of reading, improve their reading skills and have some fun.  Students, depending on their age, work toward the goal of collecting all 24 Calgary Flames or Harvey the Hound trading cards. Flames players will answer questions from students followed by autographs. This initiative is an excellent opportunity to emphasize the importance of literacy, complement existing reading programs in schools, and encourage parents to share in their children's reading. Last season, over 22,000 students participated in the Reading…Give It A Shot! program.

The PREP Program is a not-for-profit organization that provides innovative educational and therapy services to children with Down syndrome. PREP has the privilege of accompanying parents on the challenging, yet ultimately rewarding, journey of parenting a child with special needs. We believe in “inclusion for life” that starts in the home, continues in school and community, and ultimately leads to the workplace. PREP is a beneficiary of the Calgary Flames Foundation.

The Calgary Flames continue to engage in positive fan development and community investment activities year after year through the hockey club and its charitable arm, the Calgary Flames Foundation.
