Quebec, QC / TheNewswire / February 23, 2017 – NuRAN Wireless Inc. (“NuRAN Wireless” or the “Company”) (CSE:NUR) (OTC: NRRWF) is pleased to announce that its GSM LiteRAN 2G solution was selected by Global Communications Extension Services Ltd (“GCES”), a wholesale operator, for an initial deployment in Nigeria for a tier-one mobile operator.
This deployment of NuRAN’s complete Radio Access Network is scheduled to start in March 2017 and will be installed in five different sites in semi-urban and rural areas located in Nigeria.
Nigeria has the largest rural population in Africa with over 95 million people living in these remote and rural areas. The mobile phone penetration rate is at 81% and mostly within the urban region. With NuRAN’s solution, the Mobile Network Operators (MNO) and/or their wholesale partners now have an alternative to bring connectivity to these underserved areas with an economically viable solution compared to typical expensive wireless infrastructure. If this deployment proves to be successful, it will lead to many additional sites to be installed over the next three years.
“As rural telephony solution providers, GCES have been in search of a viable & cost effective solution for rural communities in Nigeria and we have found that the NuRAN LiteRAN 2G solution to adequately suit this purpose.” stated Mohammad Bawa, CEO of GCES LTD.
“This is an important step for NuRAN Wireless to be deploying with yet another Tier 1 operator in Africa. With each win, NuRAN is continuing to show the strength of its rural GSM solution. We look forward to ongoing success with our new partner GCES in Nigeria.” added Bradley Shaw, Regional Manager for the Middle East and Africa for NuRAN Wireless.
NuRAN LiteRAN 2G
The LiteRAN2G solution was specifically designed for operators to connect the next billion subscribers profitably while coping with the inherent realities of the underserved areas including; the lack of telecommunications infrastructure, absence of power grid, and the challenging economics of low-density, low-revenue populations. LiteRAN 2G is a complete, carrier-grade base station subsystem consisting of NuRAN’s GSM LiteCell, NuBSC, LiteSAT, and GSM BSS Manager. In addition to having the lowest cost of ownership, it holds three other industry records including; having the lowest power consumption, being the smallest and lightest, and requiring the least satellite bandwidth. From a single TRX (01) to tri-sector (S2/2/2) configuration, the solution brings 2.75G voice and data service to remote areas whose population ideally ranges between 2000 and 20,000.
